Mason Jar Hacks

I turned to QUORA dot com to reaffirm my understanding of the word HACK when used in a non computer related context.

The word came out of MIT and the hacker culture there; so the best pseudo-primary source would be the Jargon File. Here are some references, distilled to the relevant points:
From these definitions, you can get an idea that a HACK is a procedure or a way of doing something that:
  1. Demonstrates cleverness or ingenuity
  2. Solves a meaningful problem
  3. Is not a common or well-known solution to the problem
  4. May not be the most straightforward or appropriate solution.
